  • I would put negative stars if I could. I've been an RN for over a decade and have worked in several hospitals over the years. This was really really bad. I've never even written a review before about anything. But here it goes- I have a habit of picking my fingers and have done so for as long as I can remember. I haven't been working in an acute setting for 8 months but went to visit my grandpa at a different hospital. My right ring finger has since swelled up and is hot and weeping at the bed and very painful. My co-worker who used to work for this free-standing er and urged me to go in to have my fingertip drained or aspirated. So I did, the physician I saw Dr. Gustavo Velasquez who told me I needed help with my compulsion and insisted I did this to myself; which I repeatedly told him I did not. He then argued that my finger was not pussing yet I had visible serousanguinous fluid that was dried and nasty at the nailbed. He then proceeded to lancet (poke with a needle) my skin a good inch above the actual nail bed where the infection was clearly not coming from. He squeezed blood out for a good 30 seconds while I squirmed in pain. NO LOCAL/TOPICAL anesthetic. NOT EVEN TYLENOL OR ANY CONVERSATION OF PAIN CONTROL. Why he did not at least inject a little bit of lidocaine or some topical spray that is used for IVs is just pure laziness and neglect. I even asked him if he could do something for numbing it before he lanced my finger, he said no it was not necessary. Oh boy was it though. My finger is now way more swollen, has an open cut now, and in much more pain after the extra trauma. He did not clean the skin prior to lancing and provided no ointment/bacitracin and left me with blood all over the finger and some more red artwork on my upper arm. After all the fun, he told me i needed to take an oral antibiotic. I told him I was resistant to a lot of them because I have a somewhat paralyzed bladder from surgery. He didn't even stop to acknowledge this as he walked out of the room (there was only ONE other patient in the er, yet he was still in a hurry to leave). Proceeded to prescribe an oral antibiotic that I am resistant to. However, he never returned to the room to discuss this so thats what I left with. The nurse did ask me if I would like to tell the doctor this. At this point, I had enough and just left. Will just f/u with my pcp to see if they'll call me in a different antibiotic. I then see the doctor wrote I had a skin rash on my discharge paperwork and went out of his way to write me a "no restrictions" note for work. I attached the pic of my "skin rash" prior to er visit and his spot on diagnosis.
