Today was a breeze at the DMV. Only 20 people in line and it only took 20 minutes. I guess weekdays are worth the sacrifice of one work day.
To start, new Real IDs will be mandatory by Nov. of 2020. This ID entitles you to a fast pass to board on: planes and federal government offices.
The real ID act of 2005 in a brief synopsis is an act of congress, a bill that was given light by President Bush to help aid in national security. Homeland security through this bill mandates the proper verification paper work for all immigrants and U.S. citizens. The difference between the Real ID and a regular driver license is the star that is embedded on the upper right hand corner. The regular driver license reads "NOT FOR FEDERAL OFFICIAL USE".
I recall renewals of driver license's are every 4 years but as I paid the hefty $42 bucks for renewal, I was informed that the driver license's new expiration is in 8 years. In a sense, the longevity of the license is worth the double payment.
I want to give an honorable mention to our generous DMV rep Aaron Kos, he is the host with the most: caring, informative, and simplified. Customer service above par is always worth a really good review. DMV is not the most exciting place to visit. This state office usually filled with irate people (customer or DMV worker), at times make you dread the visit, however, Aaron made it worth the wait. He answered all of our questions properly and was very courteous. Thank you for loving your job Aaron!
