  • There's no denying the folks at Sibling Revelry (yeah, it's a difficult one to say) know what the hell they're doing. These relative newcomers to the Ohio craft beer scene have already made quite a name for themselves over the last few years and they show no signs of stopping. I'll bottom line it for you: Really good, locally-brewed beer served by a pleasant staff in a nice space without a kitchen and with a bit of a kids and dogs problem. Now for the details. As I mentioned above, SR doesn't have a kitchen - something I'd love to see remedied - but they are huge supporters of the local mobile food thing. You'll find different food trucks in their lot throughout the season or you can just bring along whatever you wanna nosh. Just thinking out loud here, but I can envision a classy SR brewpub with a gastropubby foodie thing going, but I think for right now this is but a dream as they're clearly focusing on growing their beer and brand right now. Beer. Beer. Beer. The beer is the star at SR, for sure. Their brewmaster has mad skills as does their assistant brewer. Seriously, these guys couldn't help but brew tasty beer. I just had their Third Wheel Belgian-style tripel aged in wine barrels and it was simply delicious. The kind of beer I crave, actually. On the whole they brew a solid line-up of styles with enough variety for just about everyone on the beer spectrum. They even have limited edition bottle releases now and again and that's pretty cool. I know it sounds like I'm gushing here, so just to show that I'm relatively objective I've got two words - lavender wit. Holy shit. It tasted to me like someone spiked a good beer with a fabric softener sheet or a quart of grandma's perfume. Nothing subtle about the use of flowers here. Not for me. Another little complaint is that I do think that their taproom pricing model is unnecessarily complicated. There are different color jacks marking different "tiers" of beer and each tier having its own price. Ugh. Why not just price everything at $6.50 and manage the pour sizes like everyone else? Keep it simple, people. That's all I'm saying. Speaking of the taproom, it's, well, nice. I wouldn't call it much more than utilitarian but I also wouldn't bitch about it. There's a bar, some tables, a patio; it's a well-lit all natural light-y spot and it gets the job done. If you want a place to plant your ass while you drink fresh-brewed beer in big tanks that are literally feet in front of your face, here it is. Now it's time for a little rant. I could have put this on any number of local breweries Yelp reviews, it just so happened that SR drew the short straw here. Kids and dogs. When will it end with the damn kids and dogs at breweries. Seriously. This has gotten out of hand and I think we need to do something about it. Kids and dogs tend to be annoying, unpredictable little piss and shit factories and they have no real reason for being in a brewery. I don't have kids and I shouldn't have to be subjected to yours simply because you still want to drink and pretend that you don't have kids either. Stay home or hire a babysitter. Besides, there's just something off putting about drinking around kids anyway. As for the dogs, do I even have to say something? Who the hell wants to be forced to step over strange dogs laying all over the floor like beached sea lions a mere ass sniff away from an outbreak of canine chaos? I swear, this whole wont of businesses feeling they must find a way to turn themselves into some kind of Frankensteinian boozy mashup that's a combination of day care + dog kennel + bar needs to stop now. I really can't fault SR for this or single them out as the leaders of this horrid movement, they're just following what everyone else is doing. Seriously. Enough's enough with feeling like you have to bring your kids and dogs everywhere with you. How about just going out to be with other adults who want to drink away some of their monotonous, boring lives just like normal people. Rant done.
