  • I highly recommend triple checking with both the office and your health insurance provider before visiting Dr. Carfagno, or utilizing any of the services provided by Scottsdale Sports Medicine, to ensure that you won't be paying out of pocket. Apparently, the office uses two different billing codes. Unfortunately for me, I found out 9 months after my visit (when I received an outrageous bill in the mail) that only one of their billing codes is authorized. Guess which one they used?! I tried appealing the decision with my insurance company (since I found him in their directory) and was denied. I was told this was a matter for the office itself, since they used the unauthorized code. The office staff clearly waited months and months to even submit my claim for payment (long after I switched insurance providers) and were careless enough to use an incorrect billing code. After leaving three different messages for the billing department, I finally received a call about 10 days later. I was told that the office has dropped my former insurance provider, because "they've had so many difficulties with them in the past" (that would have been nice to know when I handed them my insurance information!). I was also told they would give me a discounted rate but that I was still responsible for the remaining charges. Discounted rate (still nearly $300) or not, I will NEVER be back. Food for thought......
