| - I get sort of romantic about places like this, and it's difficult not to. The graffiti wall, the throwback interior you know they aren't faking, the fact that it's called a coffee shop but really it's a beer cafe, the old patio chairs just one step from breaking, but perfect for relaxing on which is what the entire design of the place screams at you as you walk past it, then back to check it out.
The food. People usually love hole in the wall type business's for a particular reason: cheap beer or food, chill vibe, iconic neighborhood status. I think you could apply all those to Java. But for me and my friends this day, it was the cheap food that drew us in.
I had the chicken Pad Thai, my friend had the Shanghai Noodle and my other friend had some other Asian noodle dish. All were pretty good. And all were $8.50. The price was great as Pad Thai is typically about $12 minimum. The flavor was decent. Didn't have crushed peanuts which I like, and the tamarind was a bit too ketchupy (I've mentioned this about other Pad Thai), but I was starving and for my dollar, it was just what the doctor ordered. Came with a tiny salad which was actually very good. Homemade dressing (by my estimation) was a nice touch.
Staff were friendly enough, and were attentive. Suits the atmosphere of casual dining. ATM is located at back.
Good, cheap eats. Worth stopping in
