| - I was part of a bridal party for a wedding here in Oct 2012. This venue is a tad more expensive than other venues that were considered, but the Bride and Groom ultimately decided on the Sunnybrook Estates because most of the proceeds actually goes to Sunnybrook Hospital, which I think is an excellent cause.
My personal thoughts:
VENUE: the grounds are beautiful and picturesque; plenty of places around to take photos. Had the ceremony in the outdoor Arbour; very lovely quaint setting, but had terrible issues with mosquitos the previous week during rehearsals (last week of September) due to abnormally warm and rainy weather. Mercifully they were absent for the wedding day. We were in the Vaughan Estates - which comfortably sat our 130 guests - has a very nice cozy feel, with the wood decor and fireplaces.
My only issue? The "Bridal" room upstairs (so the bridal party can get ready) is SUPER TINY. The main area is as big as a walk-in closet, and can barely fit 4 people, with a mirrored desk and chair taking up most of the space. There is an ensuite bathroom, which is strangely larger than the sitting area (complete with full bathtub, toilet, and sink.) Not an ideal place if you were hoping to rest or take a break in here, as there's a single wooden chair and a tiny ottoman available. Room needs a serious reno, and can do without the (largely unused) bathtub to make room for more seating space.
FOOD: I'm kind of a fussy eater, and I have to say that this was the best food I've ever had at a wedding. (And judging by previous reviews, they've changed-up their menus.) The appetizers were delicious (shrimp, chicken skewers, sliders) and the main course portions were HUGE (we had lobster and steak.) For the late night snack table, we had pizza, poutine and sliders - all also very good, but the small candle heaters were inadequate to keep the food hot enough, so the food was luke-warm after an hour, which was a bit unfortunate.
STAFF: they worked super-hard all night, and were always friendly, obliging, and incredibly efficient (perhaps to a fault, as after dinner they kept clearing my water and snacks when I would need to leave the table momentarily. But it was only a minor nuisance.)
The manager working that day (Romaldo?) was EXCELLENT and did a wonderful job of keeping things running. He was involved in every aspect: setting up the dining area, assisting the bridal party, leading everyone to the ceremony, serving dinner, etc. while remaining unfailingly polite and friendly over the course of the (very long) day.
Thank you again Sunnybrook Estates for the lovely time! Would definitely recommend to any friends/family considering a wedding venue.
