| - About 10 days ago I dined at The Arms for lunch. It was quiet despite the Champions League game being broadcast all around me but I didn't mind, I like the atmosphere in here AND I love the Free Wifi even more!
However, Wifi and ambiance are not the purpose of my review today, today I'm here to tell you all about what remarkable and surprising food this place has. Entering in off the street (Main Street that is) you'd be led to believe that UA is you're typical run of the mill pub/sports bar. You see the wood fixtures, televisions, bar stools, ornate and gorgeous bar and you figure...."Meh, I'll get a burger and fries and a Beer".
Now while I haven't tried the burger (however I feel that too is likely amazing) those menu items I have partaken in have knocked me (and my dinner guests) on our proverbial asses - with shock and flavour!
Visit 1 - Oriental Chicken Salad. After a visit to a certain chain lounge restaurant baring the name of a character from the show Friends, I had been disappointed by their salad to the point of almost giving up my lunch time lettuce. Then I visited the UA and they TOTALLY renewed my faith in fiberous foliage! The Oriental (as I shall now refer to it) was large, even by lunch time standards, had a large healthy breast of chicken on top AND not to mention all the salads one would hope to find. It was well seasoned, perfectly dressed, plentiful and I will certainly order it again!
Visit 2 - Steak Sandwich. I knew I read that they age their steaks and that's great and all BUT how much of a different would it make on a small 1/2 inch thick grilling steak for a sandwich? Apparently a world... yes a world of difference. I consider myself a amateur master grills-man and I cannot ever get a think steak like this to a perfect medium rare, let alone get it as tender and juicy so as to break away with each bite just as easily as the delicious garlic toasted bun that it soaks. *Drool*. Not to mention it's topped with sauteed onions and mushrooms and this special of the day made this boy feel EXTRA special!
Side note: Peep their fries. Far and away the largest steak cut fries I have ever eaten... seriously the are like the size of twinkies!!!
I love the Arms, I really do, the family who runs it is a great group whom I've had a chance to meet on a number of occasions. I hope this restaurant/pub/grill stays just this way for a long time because I'm planning on making this my regular spot for midweek lunches more often!
