| - When it comes to guns, safety is my #1 priority. Add a bunch of total strangers with guns and safety becomes even more important and paramount. This is one reason I like coming here. If you've ever seen the Phoenix on the mountains heading west on the 60 around AJ and Mesa, this range is at the base of that mountain.
Facilities- 5 stars
A great location. A great range for the public, members only areas, sporting clays, and all very clean. It can great crowded as your next range option is Ben Avery up near Pleasant Lake.
Staff- 5 stars
Ok I'll agree the RSO's can be assholes and very strict. I've got my butt chewed before, I hear and see people getting their butts chewed out. But here's my humble opinion. One small accident with a gun can kill you, your loved one or another person in a blink of an eye. I don't think the RSO officers care about my or anyone's feelings, they care about our safety and making sure everyone leaves healthy. When accidents happen, people always look to blame others. That's incredible pressure. Now add an vast array of experience from novice gun owners to military veterans. Anyone who understands gun safety can look around at any moment at a gun range and spot the person or persons who make you feel leery on how they handle a gun, where they point it.....they stick out. I want to feel safe shooting for myself but also if I have my family with me. So if these guys are very strict and allow me to not constantly worry about someone else's safety then I'm all for. I'm very knowledgeable, skilled and safe with firearms. I figure if I'm doing something that catches their attention then it tells me they are seeing a lot of unsafe practices and preventing accidents. The other alternative is head out to the desert and take your chances with the reckless folks you will see.
If you've never been to this range, check out website, read rules and regulations. Upon showing up, sign your waiver and ask questions. Once in the range. Sit through a cycle when the range is hot, cease fire and cold. You will have hearing protection so observation can show you a lot. You need to have eye protection and hearing protection. If you don't, you can rent at check in office. If you aren't sure about something go ask a RSO. They may come off as assholes, but they are assholes for the right reason folks.
Overall a great facility, and the sporting clay and trap areas are great. If you are a new gun owner take some gun courses before going to range. For kids a hunters safety course is great. RSSC offers many safety and training classes and you should check them out. If you respect safety this is the place. If you are reckless, well I'm sure you will be getting your feelings hurt.
