  • I stumbled upon Mashion this afternoon while in the area for a work meeting. I was starving but didn't have time to sit down for a proper lunch so I thought I'd give the place a shot. I'm glad I did! I feel like I hit the jackpot! For under 3 bucks I loaded up on way more goodies than I could handle in one sitting! I should preface this review with the fact that I am not a Chinese bakery connoisseur by any means. I just know that I've had "buns" at dim sum on occasion and always knew I liked most of them. What I did not know, however, is how over the top delicious they can be! I will definitely scout out more bakeries of this kind in the future as my experience at Mashion was fab. I imagine Mashion will continue to be a favourite in the years to come. Their selection was very extensive with real estate on the "right side" of the space set aside for savoury items, with the left side reserved for mostly sweet things. My first two picks were the chicken pot pie bun and a beef curry bun. I had no idea what kind of a treat my taste buds were in for! And the two totalled a mere $1! When I strolled through the shop, I expected there to be a minimum order, as a loonie for lunch seemed too good to be true. So I loaded my tray up with a few other items that I have yet to try because I'm still full from lunch! I left with a loot bag full of around 6 filling delicacies and felt guilty at how little I had paid. My visit took place around the noon hour at which point staff were hustling and bustling about replenishing the items which were stored in a health-and-safety-approved covered containers. Will I go back? You bet! I'll be in the neighbourhood again next week and will return. (I'd give myself a reason to return even sooner but while these treats are amazing, they're not the easiest on the hips! I must exercise restraint or I could become a big addict!) In a selfish way, I almost didn't want to review this gem of a bakery because I don't want them selling out or getting too busy on me! But I do wish them ultimate success and usually am a person who likes to share. : ) So I'm giving this a 5 not because going here is a life-changing dining experience, but because the food tastes wonderful, is served very fresh and is probably the best deal in town. It's a great lunch or snack stop while in the Chinatown/Kensington area. Congrats Mashion. See you soon! TIP: Bring cash if you're buying a small quantity as they charge $1 if your Debit/Interac order is under $15. Or just suck it up and pay the extra buck because it's so cheap already it almost doesn't matter!
