I have always thought very highly of UW Veterinary Care, until today. Over the weekend my dog was diagnosed with cancer. As any pet owner can imagine, we are absolutely devastated. My dog is a patient at UW Vet and called to get him in with an oncologist to review his diagnosis and come up with a treatment plan. I spoke with someone by the name of Mandy in emergency care. Mandy interrupted me as I was explaining my dogs symptoms and said "it does not sound like your dog will qualify as a candidate for our oncology department. You can bring him into emergency for surgery or we may have to euthanize him". Truth or not, that is no way to speak to a patient during such a difficult time. Furthermore, she would not help me schedule an appointment even with our routine vet. The only option I was given was to bring him into the ER when I kept saying he was currently stable. I'm absolutely appalled by the lack of empathy that I received.
