  • One of the greatest acheivements of the US and it occurred as a work program during the depression. Maybe borrowing to work on the infrastructure during hard times is worthwild if it results in something amazing like this that helped make the south west more livable. One of the engineering wonders of the word even today. And the US just built an amazing new bridge over it. It's a 750 ft veiw down so stay away from the handrails if you are afraid of heights. The guides seem really interested in thier jobs letting you know that although a plaque says only 98 people died builiding the damn, about 700 died, but many died on the way to the hospital. The company that built the damn paid very low wages and fired you if you took a sick day or mentioned a union. The men of the depression endured 137 degree heat to build the damn as concrete gives off heat when it dries.
