  • This place is chic. My sister, brother, husband and I dined here on Sunday night -- the last night we were in town. We needed a good steak dinner to cap off a great trip. I left the baby with my parents and we were set to have an adult evening. No reservations necessary. We saw on OpenTable that all times were available and we decided to wing it, not knowing when we were going to eat and also to see what else was around Old Montreal. We looked in and it was pretty empty around 7. We walked around and decided this was our best option in the area without a wait for meat-meat-meat. We had been to the hotel and adjoining restaurant previously (years ago) for a wedding and loved the atmosphere. They haven't changed the décor much, if at all. I ordered the Mechant Burger, my sister and husband both ordered the steak frites (hanger steak) and my big brother had the rib steak (rib eye). To start, we had the charcuterie board with the foie gras (my sister's requirement). It was a good portion. Some of the meats were spicy and my hubby polished off the dozen olives and pickled goodies. My burger was fantastic and came with double-fried frites and mayo. Sampling the other meals, the hanger steak was as expected. The accompanying veggies were undercooked---I can handle raw carrots, green beans and tomatoes, but not Brussels sprouts! Obviously we all preferred the rib steak to the hanger steak cut, but it's huge at 20 oz. Shamefully we left a lot of food on the table and had to pass on dessert. Service was courteous. Not memorable, but that's a good thing. This place is a solid OK.
