I really don't know what it is about Lazy Jane's. The antique-looking, house-shaped cafe doesn't have anything special on their menu; they mainly have very traditional American breakfast items as well as some pastries. There are no unique gimmicks unlike a lot of other popular Madison brunch menus. Somehow, they stand out by quality alone.
If I had to guess what Lazy Jane's secret it, I would have to guess butter. Their pancakes are so soft and chewy with a distinct buttery richness to them. Their biscuits have a crisp crust but a soft, buttery interior with the right amount of saltiness. Their scones are more dense than your typical scone. Even their scrambled eggs taste buttery compared to the ones I make at home. It's all delicious!
If you want to get your hands on this delicious brunch, be ready to wake up early or wait in line. I didn't have to wait when I went around 9 am or when I went near closing at 1 pm if that helps you plan your attack. Good luck!
