  • I found an injured dove on the side of the road while taking my dog for her morning walk. I couldn't imagine leaving it there helpless to waste away under the hot sun. I placed it in a box with a towel and dirt.The dove seemed OK, it just couldn't fly. Not knowing what to do, I contacted every veterinarian in the north Scottsdale area. It was frustrating not to find one that could help out. Finally I was given a referral to Fallen Feathers (relief!). It was worth the 40 minute drive from Carefree to Peoria to find the avian refuge. They took the dove under their care right away. The knowledgeable volunteer said it was a young dove, but overall seemed healthy. She said they would try to nurse it back to health and then release it back into nature. I am impressed with the selfless, compassionate and caring attitude of this non-profit organization.
