| - Wow, what a nice find. My sister and I had gone out to lunch and initially tried another place on Shea and the 51 which will go unnamed in this review but FAIL. After walking out of our initial stop completely unnoticed, we decided to try the Hammered Hog. I drive by this place several times a week and I've been eyeing it for a few years at least and it was close to our initial attempt at lunch so we headed there.
We pulled into the parking lot, it looks like a dive biker bar. I have no problem with dive biker bars, but the interior was much nicer than we had expected.
We were waited on almost immediately, I wish I had gotten the waitress/bartenders name, but she was very friendly and helpful. We ordered, got our drinks quickly and the food came out soon after.
I ordered the 1/2 lb. brisket on Texas toast and tater tots. My only complaint was the bottom slice of toast was a bit soggy. The brisket was delicious. I added some KC bbq sauce and was good to go. The tater tots were nice and crispy, I wished I had a larger portion! I didn't make note of my sisters order but she was equally complimentary of her meal. In fact, she took a to go menu with her, in particular for ordering by the pound for when she has company.
The prices were reasonable, I just wish the portions were larger it was so tasty.
I will definitely be back as it is close to my work and home and I love a good bbq place.
