This was one of the best things we did on our short visit to the Phoenix area. We met our guide Jason, in front of the Scottsdale historical society building on a bright and sunny Saturday for the lunchtime version of the old towne Scottsdale food tour. There were around 14 folks in total on the tour from all over the country.
The tour itself lasts a little over 3 hours and was conducted at a very comfortable place with Jason pointing out interesting sights and giving us a bit of a history lesson as we strolled through the old town and arts district. In total we visited 6 stops-all locally owned restaurants and shops-where we were warmly welcomed by the owner or manager and given tasty food and drink. We tasted pork tacos with pineapple salsa, olive oils and vinegars, great local coal-fired pizza with crispy crust, sangria and bruschetta, delicious chopped salad and topped it all off with cinnamon donut holes and red velvet marshmallow cake and ginger beer & rum cocktails. The only problem is we should have skipped breakfast-we were completely stuffed by the end!
They also offer a dinner walk most evening except Saturday and Friday that Jason said is organized like a progressive dinner. As soon as we can re-button the jeans, we've got to take that one in too! Thanks Jason for a great afternoon. I will be recommending this tour to all!
