I drove up from Columbus and visited the museum to see the Pharoah special exhibit. I had never been to this museum and probably never would have had it not been for that exhibit, and I have to say that would have been a huge shame. I've been to many art museums all around the world, and I must say this one rates up there with the more known museums of the world.
First let me highlight that admission to the museum is FREE. Yes, FREE. That very fact left my mind blown. Such a fantastic facility holding an amazing collection being free is a rarity in this day.
The facility is, simply stated, spectacular. The main entrance and lobby opens up to a huge atrium with natural light flooding in and beautiful green spaces capping the ends. The gift shop and cafe sit at one end. I was pleased with the cafe offerings especially with the staff knowledge of veganism and their willingness to point out what was and was not vegan and what they could do to make some non vegan items suitable for vegans. This alone would make me rate them high. But the food they provided was fresh and delicious.
Now for the exhibit collection. It is massive! To fully appreciate the entire collection cannot be done in a single visit. I did not see everything and stuck to my personal favorites of American, Impressionism, Surrealism and Modern. The variety and big names in the collection were fantastic. From Monet and Renoir to Picasso and Dali. Throw in a Pollock and you've got me hooked!
I look forward to returning one day soon to see the rest of the collection and I cannot recommend this museum enough.
