  • Cleveland is fortunate to have a wonderful zoo. The variety of animals is impressive. The elephants, tiger, primates and rain forest exhibits stand out their star attractions. The orangutans in the Rain Forest are a hoot to watch. At the African Elephant Crossing an amazing habitat has been set up for the elephants. It is one of the larger areas in which the elephants have plenty of room to roam. Be sure the check out the primate, cat and aquatics. All sorts of interesting creatures to see and photograph. The Circle of Life Carousel is a recent add on to the zoo. There are 60 something carved and painted animals to ride on. Probably the best carousel in the area. Rides are only $3 or $2.50 if you have a zoo membership. Near the main entrance stroller and wheel chair rentals are available. The zoo exhibits are a bit spread out. By the end of the day you should have an easy 10,000 steps. There is a tram that runs between the major exhibits so you can save your legs. In the winter, it only runs between the lions near the main entrance of the zoo and the primate, cat and aquatics building. During the spring, summer and fall, a variety of food concessions are spread out through the zoo including soft pretzels, popcorn and ice cream. Fast food options include McDonald's and Pizza Hut. In the winter, only the Rain Forest cafeteria is open which offers basic options. I highly recommended visiting the Cleveland Zoo if you haven't been there before. I feel the staff do a fantastic job at keeping the animals happy with enrichment and activities. The exhibits are are well maintained and I always see staff keeping things clean.
