| - This review is for prenatal yoga -- I can't speak to the other classes offered at the studio. I would say my experience was between "meh" and "just ok". I'm giving three stars instead of two because (1) the space is nice and (2) I believe that the other prenatal yoga instructor (there are two) is way better than the one I had. I enrolled here on a friend's recommendation -- she took the Tuesday class with Florence. I had a scheduling conflict and took the saturday class with corinne instead.....who if I had to guess, I would say has never been pregnant, does not have a good understanding of what the pregnant body can / can't do, and generally seemed kind of frustrated that she was not teaching a more ambitious class. For instance she'd demonstrate a forward bend in a way that many of us could have attempted pre-preg, but none of us could bend that far with our bellies, so it just makes you feel like you're underachieving. She was the kind of person who only smiles when she remembers she's supposed to. Despite this, she occasionally doled out useless, scripted advice about pregnancy and how we're supposed to be feeling, that any half-informed pregnant person would already know, as if it was the height of wisdom. Hmm, yeah. Thanks.
After a few weeks, I had to force myself to go to a class i didn't like but had already paid for. For prenatal, you have to pay for 8 weeks upfront, and after that, you have the "right" to pay per class (or for a five-class pass), and attend any class you want to. Scheduling has meant that I have only taken one class with Florence, but I thought she was waayy better. I see that this session (spring '13) Corinne is now only teaching once a week. Maybe my fellow preggos are voting with their swollen feet. I hate to get personal about this stuff in a public forum, but good lord I wish someone had warned me before I paid my money for this class.
