| - How is it that I live by this place for almost 2 years and haven't gone until now? Probably it's because I'm on autopilot, walking into Trader Joe's while dodging all the gymtards yapping on their cellphones while speeding into parking spots that clearly state "No Gym Parking".
Anyway, the pizza.
I worked from home this morning, and I ran out of cereal, so it was off to Trader Joe's I went. But I got out of the parking lot and got distracted by the pseudo 5-table "Farmers Market" (if you can call one table with produce and 4 tables with lotions and smelling salts a Farmers Market). With Terraverde Farms nowhere to be found (so I could buy more jalapeno jelly), I was making my way back to TJ's when I spotted Pie*Zano's (ok, not that I never spotted Pie*Zano's before, I always knew it was there, but today I actually took its existence somewhat more seriously).
So autopilot be damned, I made a detour and went in. I didn't really know what was going on inside. It was 11:15 and there was already a sizeable lunch crowd munching on their pizzas. I just kind of looked at the chalkboard. A guy behind the counter patiently explained that I could order something listed on the menu, or build my own pizza, a la Subway. Not sure if you want to associate your restaurant with Subway there buddy, but anyway.
Lots of options for crust (including a gluten-free option), sauce, cheese, meat, veggies, herbs. I got a basil pesto pizza on whole wheat crust with artichoke hearts, kalamata olives, sun dried tomatoes, mozzarella and red onions with a smidgen of garlic (don't hate). The pizza itself is personal size. Actually, I think that's the only size they have, from the looks of it. In my pizza went through Quizno-esque conveyer oven and out it came on the other side.
I'd say the pizza was pretty good. The whole wheat crust was excellent - I couldn't even taste the difference, and the best thing about it was how light it was. Didn't feel remotely heavy in stomach. The downside of it being so light, though, was that I inhaled the entire thing in like 60 seconds. And I'm always the last one at the table eating, so this is saying something.
I'll definitely be back to Pie*Zano's, given how close I am to it, although I won't make it part of my 3-times a week Trader Joe's ritual, because that would just be bad news bears. I only have so much money to buy looser pants per month.
4 stars.
Note: They also serve breakfast and have a full coffee bar.
