  • I have to say..... most of the skilled nursing facilities in Vegas aren't great. Over the course of three months, my dad spent time in three different ones. He was at Silver Hills for the longest, a total of six weeks. The therapists are awesome. He was there for rehab after having a stroke. When he come in (almost two months after the stroke) he was max assist with everything, except for upper dressing. By the time he left, he's min assist with using the bathroom, only supervision (or min assist if he's tired) when transferring to/from wheelchair to bed, and he's able to walk using his walker (supervised)! I couldn't believe the progress that he made in such a short amount of time. Amy, the main PT is awesome. She pushed him, respectfully, every time she saw him. He even started asking for her, by name. He adored her! All of the other PTAs and OTs and STs were wonderful as well. I'm very pleased with his therapy. I think the therapy here was even better than his two weeks in an IRF (inpatient rehab facility). I mistakenly assumed that an IRF would be better for him than a SNF because he'd have longer therapy. I was wrong. The rehab that he received from Silver hills was just what he needed. As for everything else.....it was okay. His level of care really depends on the shift. Most of the cnas were very helpful and attentive to his needs. The nurses were different here. I'm glad that most of the nurses were RNs, so I never wondered about their qualifications or their ability to provide needed care for him. My only issue is that their roles were very defined. For example, if needed any type of bathroom care, they mostly called on a CNA, which I can understand so that the nurses can focus on giving needed care to all patients. But if the CNA was busy, my dad would just have to wait, which often resulted in him having an accident on himself. Also, the call lights were very slow. It could sometimes take up to 20 minutes before someone would come. The food was fine. His room was fine. I highly recommend getting a room in the 300 hall if possible. That side is newer and the staff seemed much better. Our first week in 100 hall was worrisome. I think he'd have a much worse experience if he stayed in that hall. Most staff at the nursing station in the 100 hall were more concerned with being on their personal phones than helping patients (including the charge nurse). But the 300 hall charge nurses were all great. No complaints. It's obvious that they took pride in running their halls. His doctor, dr pabby, was always attentive to my questions, suggestions, etc. She is soft spoken, however, she knows her stuff! The overall facility was nice. Lots of areas to sit outside when the weather was nice. It was very clean and modern looking. Thanks Silver Hills Team!
