  • Here's the TLDNR version: I went in on a Friday at 2 PM with 20/900 vision, after a 10-minute procedure I left, went to sleep for a few hours, and went back the next morning to find I now have 20/15 vision. I went from legally blind (many times over) to better than perfect vision... overnight. The longer version, for those who are thinking "So what makes a 5-star Lasik review?": I found Dr. Perry on the internet while searching and reading about local Lasik procedures. You see, my insurance stopped letting me go to my long-time doctor and told me I could only ever go to Sam's Club. I don't hate Sam's Club, I just really loved my doctor. When you have vision like mine, you need to like your eye doctor. I thought maybe Lasik would be easier than trying to find a new doctor. I was right, in case you were wondering. I researched the most popular places, read hundreds of reviews, and finally reached out to several places including my top two choices: LasikPlus and Southwest something or another. Southwest-something-or-another has one lady who does all their Lasik onboarding, she doesn't answer her phone and she never called me back so they were out. LasikPlus had me in their Chandler location inside a couple weeks (I have a pretty tough calendar and often need to schedule things weeks in advance). First Visit: I had gone the requisite 3 days without my contacts - it was awful, worst part about the entire process. At the appointment in Chandler they did a bunch of tests and scans to make sure I had a stable prescription and that my cornea was thick enough. They were friendly, quick, and answered all my questions. Really, I had a lot of questions and they were all so friendly, knowledgeable and generally amazing. One awkward thing: I did find it weird that they schedule my procedure before we learned if I was even a candidate. I mean, from a service delivery perspective I can see how it would be beneficial to the company to do this, but it felt weird as a customer. Note, it didn't feel weird enough for me to change my 5-star review. Just that it was kind of weird. The doctor there said he feels confident my corneas will be fine, and that I was a candidate for the procedure. That was good because I'd already scheduled it for the first Friday the doctor and I had mutually available. The Day Of: I arrived about an hour early for my procedure - it was an accident, my ride (sister) is notoriously late so we had to target a time well in advance with the expectation we'd just go shopping at one of the shops next door if we needed to burn some time. We charged the procedure to my existing CareCredit card (follow up on this below under "Care Credit Nightmare"), and rather than making me wait the extra hour they just got me in sooner. The procedure was SO FAST. At the first laser, each eye just got a little dark and there was a tiny bit of light that I saw move up my eye (presumably, this was the laser creating the flap). Dr. Perry and his assistants were wonderful, communicating with me the entire time. At the second laser, I was told to look at the blurry green light, it was suddenly surrounded by blurry red lights, within seconds the green light was in-focus, and I was done. Pro tip: if you live more than 5 minutes from the facility do yourself a favor and bring a box of tissues and sit in the darkest place of the car. Light sensitivity is a real thing, and your eyes are basically watering the whole time. Once you're home, blow your nose, put some drops in your eyes, find a dark corner and sleep. I was home a little before 3 PM (we had to make a pitstop for napkins for ALL THE EYE WATERING), I napped for a bit and by 5:30 PM, roughly 3 hours post procedure, and I was watching TV without glasses for the first time in my entire life. Care Credit Nightmare: Now, like I mentioned above, there was a Care Credit... Thing... that occurred. It was charged as a Mastercard charge rather than a promotional charge and was then subject to (eek) interest charges. Best part? Care Credit said "you need LasikPlus to fix this" and LasikPlus, in turn, said, "I don't know why they would say that; you need to talk to Care Credit". It was a treat. Fortunately, I eventually made it to a person at LasikPlus in Ohio, a few people actually, and they were wonderfully knowledgeable about this new card. They helped me get the charge reversed and reapplied correctly, and even gave me their direct line in case anything else pops up. They sent my paperwork for the promotion forward to the location where my post-op would be, and it was all downhill from there. Stuff happens, even when the plan is well formed. The Scottsdale location could have responded a little better, but Chandler and Ohio respond well to the unforeseen issues and I really appreciated it. Would recommend them to anyone.
