| - I'm a first time pool owner (less than a year), trying to DYI as much as I can, but still learning.
The pinhole leak in my pump volute that I was going to attempt fixing myself quickly turned into a huge crack spraying water all over - and I needed someone fast. I did a quick Yelp search and messaged PInk Dolphin because they were rated No. 1, advertised a quick reply time, and had many excellent reviews. Good call on my part. The owner, Steve, responded within hours and had Mike out to inspect the pump the next day. I was given a quote to replace the volute but was also given the option to replace the pump with the variable speed Pentair, considering that the existing pump was probably original from 2001. Not having done the research, I could not decide. I did not want to throw good money after bad, but I was also sticker shocked by how much a new pump costs. It was a Friday, and they could not schedule me until the following Monday so Steve emailed me two separate estimates, booked me for first thing Monday morning for whichever option I chose, and gave me time to do the research and decide. I price checked the pump online at at the local pool store, read reviews all over the internet and decided to replace it (mostly attracted to the advertised energy cost savings, and lower noise output). Pink Dolphin was clearly not significantly marking up the price of the pump, or overcharging me for labor. I signed the pump replacement estimate, and Steve quickly sent me the APS rebate forms. All this was accomplished paperless with verisign, which was awesomely convenient. Steve was also very responsive through messaging on Yelp to all my questions and concerns.
First thing Monday morning, Steve (a different one) showed up and did a fantastic job installing the new pump, painting and labeling the existing plumbing, showing me how to operate the new pump, and answering all my general questions (including what all those pipes and valves do). He hung around after the pump was installed to make sure my entire pool system was operating properly. Afterwards, Pink Dolphin even processed the manufacturer rebate for me - I didn't have to do a thing. They never tried to up-sell me any added repairs or services, and 2 weeks later I'm still very happy with my choice.
