| - This is an interesting one. The atmosphere is pretty iffy yet the wings are the best I've had in a long time. Let's start with the wings before I discuss some of the negative intangibles.
ATL (now called AZ) wings Tempe serves their wings hot, fresh, and larger than BWW/WingStop. I only visit on Tuesdays to keep things economical. The competition does .50 cent wings while AZ does .75 cent. I usually get a 10pc and a 6pc and take them down in-store. That way I know that I'm digging in when they are fresh out of the fryer.
ATL gets bonus points for serving my wings significantly faster than their competition. With at least 3 orders in front of me I never wait more than 10 minutes. I bet they quick fry the wings in advance, and re-fry them again to finish cooking them when they are ordered. Without any orders in front of me; I've received 10+ wings in as little time as 5 minutes. Pretty speedy service. The sauce game is also strong, the ATL rub (now AZ rub) is smokey, savory, sweet, and buttery. This is a must try and their signature sauce. I also go for the Suicide, which packs a punch but isn't too hot as to where you won't enjoy them. Suicide is the hottest sauce on the menu. Sample it before you get in too deep!
On to the atmosphere, ATL is relatively clean and they play classic hip-hop while you dine. Biggie, Tupac, BoneThugs all get spins in the dining lobby. The bathroom is pretty rough for men. The sink is missing a handle, so you have to use some switch bolted on to get water out. The floors are always slippery and greasy. It seems like the coating they used is pealing away. Overall, the atmosphere needs a pretty significant overhaul to get a passing grade.
With wings this good and speedy service I overlook the atmosphere foibles. Most Tuesday dinners belong to ATL.
