I returned to this place on the weekend after swearing to never go again, but due to reasons beyond my control I missed my appointment at my new salon and out of sheer convenience decided to give another try....let me start by giving you the background on my relationship with Blo...
I will start by saying that I am a bit of a blowdry addict and that on average I head to a salon at least once a week for a blowout. Needless to say I was very excited when BLO first opened on King Street as I heard how successful it was in Vancouver. My first visit (almost a year ago) was great, I had very lose curls done from a young girl who had said she was the manager, she was professional and I was really happy with the end result, this led me to purchasing a blo tab which was a HUGE MISTAKE!! At Blo you are not allowed to book with a specific stylist and as I tried this place another 6 times it seemed to get worse with each and every visit. Here are some of the major issues I encountered:
1. They didn't have a receptionist so the stylist would constantly stop doing your hair to answer the phone, if you are calling in trying to make an appointment you will be either asked to call back (numerous times) or literally be yelled at because they are "very busy"
2. You never know the level of experience you are getting with the stylists, some are okay but others are just straight out terrible. On numerous occasions I had to go home and do my hair myself.
3. Having a scheduled appointment does not seem to mean anything as you usually have to wait at least 20 minutes before a stylist will rush you out the door. I had an appointment once before catching a flight to NYC, as I walked in the door a girl in front of me said to George "I do not have an appointment but was hoping you could fit me in" He said he had an appointment coming in but would make them wait and took her before me. When I realized that he was the only stylist available I mentioned that I had a flight to catch and that had specifically booked an appointment he said that he had already started (he was washing her hair). Because my hair was in no shape to be heading to NYC I waited which I should have never done because I ended up boarding a plane with damp hair because I didn't have time for him to finish. Knowing that I was in a huge rush that day George still stopped to answer the phone 3 times.
4. The stylist are VERY unprofessional and gossip non stop, especially George. I have heard him refer to clients as cows and he never stops gossiping. I have lived in the King Street West area for 7 years and have known of the people he openly talks shit about...how this guy still has a job there I have NO idea!!!
5. On my last and FINAL visit to Blo I wanted nothing more than a straight blowout, literally round brush and flat iron. After what was a terrible round brush blow out I was hoping she would at least know how to flat iron, well she proceeded to try and flat iron my hair with a flat iron that wasn't working!!! She did 3/4 of my hair before I had to say "I don't think that it is actually on!!" Once again I had to go home and flat iron my hair myself.
I am embarrassed that I gave this place another chance and would never step foot in the doors again. Save yourself $40 and do your hair yourself- I guarantee you that you can do a better job. If you do want a blowdry in that area go to Ritual or head east and go to the Aveda school you will get far better service from the students.
