  • Ok well let me explain the main reason for my one start review. Unlike most of the people that have left a review I have had the opportunity to do many escape rooms through out the US and Canada. So I feel I have enough experience to legitimately give a review based on comparing the different companies and rooms. We did the Heist room, where the premise is we are all bank robbers in the wild west trying to get out with the banks cash and bonds. The room itself was ok as far as decor and puzzles ( maybe 2 starts for this part of the experience). But what is very frustrating is when you are trying to garner a code from the clues and the equipment doesn't work right so you spend 10 minutes trying to read a scale that isn't accurate and then they basically just end up having to tell you the weight so you can continue (really?? Just ruins the flow and when your on the right track to not be able to get correct numbers as it's part of a code is just a terrible waste of time). But the main reason for the 1 star review and what makes this escape room experience the worst out of all the ones I have done is the number of people they jam into the room. I took my family (6 of us) ($168 or so) and we got paired with ANOTHER 6 people..Cmon 12 people at once??? All my other other experiences capped out at like 6 or 8. One room in Denver even capped out at 4. But 12? Listen I get it, it's a business, you want to make money. But the other side of that coin is "yeah it's a business" and people need to be happy or content with the experience and feel they got their monies worth of entertainment. Putting that many people into 1 room is not fun. Ever hear the expression "too many cooks". Well when you have 1 clue and 12 people to have to read and logistically we are all spread out, well it just doesn't work. Most of the time half the group wasnt involved and 2 or 3 people of the other group were so type A that it was difficult to get a word in edge wise or even get close enough to what they were working on to help. I know on the website it says rooms can hold up to 10 or 12 but since all my other experiences the rooms maxed out at 6 or 8 I had no idea they would actually do it. I can now see why other operators don't allow that many people in 1 session. It's not because the rooms weren't big enough, but rather they understood that 10 or 12 people (although it will generate more money for them) will not be as fun for the patron and really it just plain doesn't work. Only one I think it works for is the operators. Once we finished " The Heist" my wife and I both looked at each other and and realized that someone was just robbed and it wasnt the game. Now most of the reviews as I mentioned are from folks who this is their first experience with an escape room and since Phoenix doesn't have many I can see why if they have nothing to compare it to they may have enjoyed their time. And if you read allot of reviews they mention is too many but still give 4 stars?!?! No idea why they would, But trust me 12 people to a room is just plain greed and doesn't take the players experience enough into account. Good news is I read somewhere that another company who's rooms I have done in other cities is opening a set of rooms in the northwest (Glendale) area. I highly suggest anyone who gets a chance to try them out when they open do so and if you have done the 10 or 12-person debacle here check them out whe they open and see what it's like when it's done correctly with 6 or 8 max!. Plus the main new room of their set I hear will be the largest escape room in the US. Can't wait for this one to open, but won't be back to this money grab establishment. They got the name of the room correct though. THE HEIST.
