  • My dog was severely hurt due to negligence and possible abuse. The facility looks very clean and state of the art but that only covers the character and ineptness of the Doctor and staff. I took my 10lb, 8 year old, Coton De Tulear dog to be boarded at Dr. Ensigns between Christmas and New Years for 1 week. I was reluctant to board/kennel my baby but flying to Hawaii is one trip that airlines do not allow dogs.... unless quarantined. The last day of our trip we received a call from Ensign that my dog couldn't walk and was in extreme pain and needed surgery for front leg and thought she had arthritis in her rear legs. I specifically asked him if there had been an accident or incident that could have caused her to have these problems as she has never had a history of problems. He said NO. Only later to find out there had been and Ensign knew about it. I instructed him not to touch my dog and had my personal vet pick her up from Ensigns facility immediately. In a few hours my vet called and said she had a crushed pelvis and broken scapula. She nearly died. Consequently she had to be kenneled for 6 weeks so she would not be mobile and could heal. She is still at my vets being kenneled to keep her immobile while the next 3 weeks she has small amounts of physical therapy. I can only think of how things could have ended had I allowed Ensign to keep her and do whatever surgery he had suggested. I am so very thankful for my personal vet Dr. Jim Nave who saved my dog's life. FYI Surgery was not nor is rarely needed or recommended for a crushed pelvis or broken scapula. The reasons as to what really happened were never confirmed. I am filing a complaint with the State Veterinarian Board. I have consulted with an attorney but it does not undo the emotional damage done to my dog and she does not understand why I didn't protect her and wonders why she is still after nearly 8 weeks unable to come home. SO WRONG. Yes Ensign did volunteer to pay all medical bills. How nice of him.
