  • Made the trek out to Cranberry to try out a new (to us) disc golf course at Knob Hill Community Park, and we were really pleasantly surprised with what we found! The park itself seemed fairly large, and looked like it had a lot to offer! It was CLEAN, well maintained, and in a nice area. One thing I noticed that I really really liked and appreciated, was that all over the park there were trash cans AND recycling bins, and people were actually using them! I can't figure out why more parks don't put small recycling bins with their trash cans.. I mean, it's 2016 and this is Pittsburgh, where we love being green, why are there not more recycling bins readily available in our parks (of all places!)?? Anyway, I'm digressing.. So the park is super clean and I love that there are recycling bins around, we've covered that much. On to the disc golf course... We really, really liked this course. The tee pads were all well kept, well marked, and well placed. The baskets were either new, or also very well maintained. The course in general was fun, which is pretty important! There were lots of varieties in obstacles and distances, and a good mixture of pretty simple to fairly difficult. It's an 18 hole course which is also fun.. playing the same 9 twice is sufficient, but it's way less boring to do 18 different holes. The last 3 or 4 holes are out by the road, so I'd recommend maybe parking your car either in the lot or away from the course.. you never know when a stray disc may find it's way right through your window and into your front seat ;) There were lots of people playing around us (I think we may have gone on a league night without realizing), but it was great because we never felt like we were being rushed, or waiting on the group ahead of us to move on. Parts of the course kind of snakes through itself, so just be mindful of other people throwing their discs around you. The conclusion to this review is that no matter what you're reason, if you've got a craving for the great outdoors, this is a good place to consider! I'd like to think that we'll make the trip back out again, even though it was a 35-40 minute drive, it's worth it!
