| - We were recently in town for the Phoenix Comicon. I'm pretty low maintenance when it comes to traveling, as I've done quite a bit of it. Bottom line, while there were some definite pros to the location, I would not stay here again. Break down below.
Pros:
It is super close to the convention center/downtown, about a 5-10 minute walk.
FREE parking!
Remodeled rooms and pretty decor.
Free breakfast
Cons:
Not very knowledgeable staff. I called THREE TIMES before our visit asking about the Marriott reward points. I got three different answers. When we checked in, this girl (who looked about 15) told us that we were going to get a free night. I asked for a break down of the bill and she had not idea how to do that. She didn't even tell me how much she was charging me when she swiped my card. I went down and spoke to the manager the next night and she confirmed that we did not qualify for a free night and had no idea what the girl was talking about.
Another staff thing: we called the front desk one night and asked to not receive the room cleaning service the next day because we didn't need it. We requested to not be disturbed due to a late night. We doubled up by putting the 'do not disturb' door hang. But at 8 am the next morning, the cleaning service was POUNDING on our door. We then proceeded to listen as the service ladies argued loudly outside our door about not disturbing us, which was, needless to say, counterproductive.
Weird hotel/room layout. There is only 1 set of stairs in the hotel and it's on the far side no where near the lobby/elevators. We had a king room and it opens up to the living room with a little kitchenette thing. Then it kind snakes like an S and there is a bathroom in the very back. Because of this the air conditioning does not circulate well. We had it on 70 the entire time and would wake up sweating. There was cold air coming out but it would get trapped in weird places in the room, instead of making the space cooler.
The bed was comfy, the pillows were ridiculous. We are not bougie sleepers, but the pillows were so large and poofy that it felt like your head was on a 90 degree angle. Maybe some people dig that, but we could not sleep with them, no matter how hard we tried. We eventually took the cushions off the couch to sleep because they were thinner. It would be nice to have some variety because everyone has different sleep tastes.
The breakfast was a little bland and they ran out of stuff quickly. The bacon tasted like bacon chips, which isn't a huge con but was weird for us. We got down at 8 and they had already run out of pastries and yogurt. Considering that a lot of convention members were staying there, they should have prepared for a large breakfast crowd.
