I haven't stayed in this hotel but I have been to the rooftop bar in the day and night during Toronto film festival. You can usually only access the rooftop if you're a guest at the hotel or you're a 'lounge member' but I was invited to a couple of parties hosted up here. Without a doubt it offers the best views of Toronto with a spectacular 360-degree panorama, so take your camera. There's also an infinity pool, cocktail bar and chic sofas.
The Thompson is quite pretentious though and they make it seem like fort knox to get up that rooftop bar. There are staff manning the guest list, then there are security people that operate the elevator to get up there. What's funny is that during the film festival they made us wait to build the excitement of getting to go up to the roof but when we got up there the party wasn't that great at all. A bit dead, nothing happening, no celebrities getting up to mischief or anything like that. Ended up taking the elevator back down to the lobby bar, which was much more exciting. Sure it would be a luxurious hotel to stay at but it is pretentious and drinks can get quite pricey!
