  • 3.5 So, it seems that I tend to fall into the habit of late - when visiting Ohio - of staying at chain hotels in industrial parks. I don't know how it happens, but it's a thing. And, as always, I have to remind people that stars are relative. When in the Cleveland suburbs, the Hyatt Place offers a good experience and exactly what it promises. There's something to be said about consistency when the goal is reliability and comfort, if not a vacation/local getaway. So, as the preamble stated, this hotel is tucked away in an industrial park in a Cleveland suburb off of the interstate. Scene set? Well, it should be only partly. As a bastion of road warriors and family reunions, I found this Hyatt Place to offer a decent-to-nice stay for an affordable price. First off, it's clean and looks to be well-kept (if not new-ish). I opted for a king suite - which offers an office, living room, refrigerator, wet bar (with sink), and large mirror. From the set up, it should come as no surprise that it's perfect for conference attendees and regional local sales folk. The free pick up at the airport and late check-out add to the attractiveness to the hotel's base demographic. The genuinely friendly staff also eases the mind of the weary road warrior and provides a nice escape from the humdrum of powerpoints and sales goals. The free-for-all breakfast is nice for business folks and large families alike. It may not offer haute cuisine but you're not at Kitcho, are you? No, you're not. Eat your waffles and keep it moving. That said, it's not a perfect stay. I found the walls to be thin, my shower flooded (so you shower while calf-deep in standing water and the floor's wet after) and my bathroom lacked the basic amenities (lotion, shampoo). None of these are deal breakers (and one was easily fixable) but it lends itself as a reminder as to where you are. It's not likely you're coming here to vacation. You're staying here for a purpose and, for the most part, I think that purpose will be satisfied. You could do far far worse in similar situations. While I think I'd rather stay Downtown upon a subsequent trip to Cleveland, if I found myself in the outer parts of town, I wouldn't be averse to resting my head at the Hyatt Place.
