| - Hardware stores. There is nothing quite so quintessentially American.
Note that we are not discussing the "big box" stores here (Lowe's, Home Depot), where the teenage nincompoop employees don't know an Allen wrench from a pipe wrench. We are talking about a store with that unique musty aroma, staffed by veterans who know how to fix or build anything, and can help you find the item in their store that can do it.
Ace Hardware is a chain, and not all links in a chain are equally strong. I can tell you from experience that the guys running this place know what they're doing, and will gladly provide you the assistance you need, should you ask for it. (If you don't ask for it, they will leave you alone, and you can figure it out by yourself.)
Extensive and very good selection of products, but more valuable than that (to me) are the guys who work here and can help you figure out the right tool(s) for the job, and then help you locate them.
Top marks.
