| - I feel biased writing this review, because Tula West is my [almost] daily yoga studio, so I am probably more likely to give them the benefit of most doubts, but here is what I have to say after approximately 1 year of steady practice there.
The studio itself is convenient in that it is close to the Ossington subway, right on Bloor, and just above a Shoppers in case you realize you forgot water, or are craving some electrolytes after a hot class.
Tula West has both a hot and cool studio, with the cool studio offering a neat (and ever-changing) array of classes "other-than" yoga. For example, I've seen barre classes, ballet sculpt, toning classes, hip hop yoga, and some yoga-lates mixes. As another Yelper mentioned with the class description not necessarily adhering to the class instruction, it would be nice if these classes were offered with some consistency. I would like to take a ballet sculpt class, but only if its somewhat regularly, so that I can learn and see results.
Having said that, I love the different class types offered in the hot studio. I come from a Moksha practice where I was very used to one set sequence and a fairly contained variety of poses. Tula has some fantastic instructors with poses and transitions I hadn't seen before. Most of the teachers I've had have been vivacious, open, and really wonderful in guiding classes. Due to the cyclical nature of the teachers, I agree that its hard to "get to know" anyone really well here (other than the other students) but if you go often enough it will emerge.
Prices are reasonable, and though I have never personally been to the spa, I have a friend who has all of her sugaring done there and really likes it.
I would (and have) definitely recommend Tula to anyone.
My only criticism is that, as someone who purchased an unlimited class, and has some time off this summer, there are very few classes (sometimes only two a day) offered from June- August. I understand completely that yoga teachers need vacations too, and there is no "right" answer, but it's frustrating to choose between 7:00am, 5:30pm (not considering if these are even classes you're interested in) or paying to go somewhere else.
Lastly, I really feel that their "First class is $10, and second is free" demonstrates their commitment to the practice. So many people studio-hop (myself included) for the first class free offer. By discounting the first class and comping the second, I really feel like Tula has its students best interests (and their practices) in mind.
