  • This company will prioritize their profits above your safety in their cars. Despicable. We flew into Las Vegas planning on renting a car to drive to Zion National Park and Eden, Utah for a spartan race. Mind you this is a combined ten hours of driving each way. So we reserved our car through the Nu Car Rental in Las Vegas near the airport. Will ABSOLUTELY never rent from this company again. At first glance everything went smooth. Picking up our car didn't take long at all. I made sure to give them the firm "NO EXTRAS, no insurance (I had full coverage on my own policy), no extra offers or fees" speech to avoid being up-charged for anything because I knew how these companies can be sometimes. They were agreeable and we had our car after only about ten minutes. The vehicle was a small four door sedan, just like we reserved. It was clean with only a few minor exterior dings that we made sure to document. We drove a short distance away to our hotel room with no incident and everything was fine. The next morning we began our journey. Speed limits on the freeways in that region were relatively slow, so that explains why we didn't notice the problem right away. When we got up into the Utah region where speed limits are 80 mph, that was when we noticed the issue. The vehicle had a harsh shudder at higher speeds that made the entire car vibrate immensely with noise that we couldn't identify the source of. No check engine lights or warning lights were on. And this wasn't like a light shudder that you may feel when your alignment is off or some minor issue. Once we hit speeds of 70-80 mph, it literally felt like we had 'street wobble' (skateboarding term) and extra care had to be taken to keep the steering wheel steady. Not only did this prevent us from relaxing on the drive, it concerned us about whether or not the vehicle was safe. When we arrived at our location, I contacted Nu Car Rentals via email to explain what was going on and asked them for permission to have the car alignment inspected at their own expense. They agreed. So I took it to the nearest shop and explained the problem. They inspected the car as well as any other things they could think of that may be causing this issue. They weren't able to find anything and sent me over to their partner shop to have them check the alignment because their shop didn't have the right equipment. So I took it to the next shop who lifted it up and ran an alignment check. All things checked out normal. Finally, out of exasperation, I took it to a Big O Tires nearby, and had them double check the car. They said nothing OBVIOUS was wrong with the car but they suspected that the engine mounts were collapsing, which would explain all of the symptoms the car was having. They recommended not driving the vehicle until it was fixed. He referred me to some information about the consequences of driving with bad engine mounts. Let me relay some of the results for you: "The first symptom to note is an excessive amount of engine vibration which will make it seem like the entire vehicle is vibrating." "If motor mounts break off completely from an engine, and are not just loose or cracked, an engine can shift from one side to another, bouncing about. This presents a safety hazard if you are driving your vehicle in high speeds; the engine may shift and bounce about so violently that various parts will fly off." "Inspect the engine to see if it is tilted. If so, your mounts aren't doing their job. However, if the engine is tilting excessively, an engine block may result. In other words, your car may stop in its tracks, which could cause an accident at higher speeds." I called back the manager at Nu Car, Michael, to explain what the shops told me in detail. I told him I did not feel safe or comfortable driving the vehicle back to Las Vegas to return it and that he either needed to send someone to come get it or have it towed back to them if he was not willing to make the necessary repairs. And I insisted that he contact a rental car company near us and purchase us a replacement vehicle. He said that since the first shop was unsure of what was wrong, he can't be sure that Big O's assessment was accurate either and told me it was my responsibility to return the car so that HIS mechanics could have a look at the vehicle. I repeated again that I was NOT comfortable driving the car 9.5 hours back to Las Vegas but he did not give me any choice. I told him that if I made that drive, I wanted a refund for my stress, worry, and overall inconvenience. He stated that after his mechanic checks the car, he would issue a refund. After arriving home, I called his office twice to ask about the car. Both times I was told Michael isn't available and no one else could help. No one ever contacted me again and for all I know they are still RENTING OUT AN UNSAFE VEHICLE TO YOU GUYS! You were warned! To Nu Car: If you want this review taken down, I want my $299.08 back for my stress and worry!
