  • So I'm still not quite sure what exactly Real Canadian Superstore is supposed to be. Is it just a bigger version of Loblaws with more stuff (i.e. Joe Fresh, dry cleaner, Wine Rack, etc.)? Because there's a Loblaws near my work that has all of that stuff except it's called, well, Loblaws. Perhaps it's the discount version? Well no, that would probably be No Frills. So I'm still confused. Anyone? Doesn't matter, not important. Anyways even though I've been going to this location for ages I think I may be done with it...it's just too much of a zoo. I had to stop by on my way somewhere else (a Yelp event, actually!) last night and gave myself what I thought would be ample time to pick up only a few items. Oh good, cat litter is on sale, too bad there's absolutely none left on the shelves! I think this happened last time as well. At least it's not as bad as the time they were completely out of carrots. I mean none at all. No big carrots, no baby, no organic, nothing. They had the other things I needed (sadly not on sale) but when I got a look at the lineups, I said "forget it". Wednesday at around 6:30. And it's always like this. Evenings until probably around 9:30 and all weekend long. If I didn't work during the day like most people do, I could pop in when they're (possibly) not busy. But I do, so that doesn't work out so well. I put the couple of items I had in my cart back, which took another five minutes probably, in no small part due to the stray carts littering the aisles. Am I the only person who returns their empty cart? Seems like it. This leads me to the reason why I really don't like RCSS. I can deal with things being out of stock and stuff left behind in the aisles and the lineups. I actually don't blame the staff there. I ended up coming back on my way home because I desperately needed wine glasses (having finally broken all of the previous cheap ones I had before) and the 12 that they sell for $12.99? Can't go wrong. The mini umbrella from Joe Fresh for seven bucks? Love it. And when you can actually access them, the people working there are quite friendly, happily directing me to the umbrellas and allowing me to circumvent the STILL large lineups at the two open cashes by letting me pay at customer service (I smooth talked them). No you see, the reason I can take RCSS anymore is the people who shop there. This is totally unfair to the place itself but it's true. They move like livestock. Always. In the parking lot, in the aisles, while waiting in line, everywhere. I don't know what it is about this location but it has to be the most zombified supermarket in existence. Twice as I was trying to zip my way around and return my cart, I got into collisions. The first time was the result of two (!!) abandoned shopping blocking my path and some folks who either didn't see me coming or didn't heed my plea to let me pass. I knocked a bunch of stuff to the ground (I did pick it up). The second was a fellow who had just finished his transaction and was S....l...o...w...l...y moving his cart out of the store. I accidently clipped him a bit and when I profusely apologized, he turned to me with a blank stare and I think mumbled something. Is there some sort of chemical plant next door that I'm unaware of? One that the staff has developed an immunity to but severely incapacitates all of the customers except for me? Yikes.
