| - Everyone has to be joking when I see that this has an average of 4 stars on yelp, this place is a joke. I have been here many times for brunch and shopping purposes, so this review is well founded. I used to live at the Cork Factory, hence coming here many times despite the terrible service and mediocre-at-best food - why you ask? Well, it was across the street, convenience, and they are BYOB. The fact that they are BYOB brunch is the only reason they got the second star in this review.
The "restaurant" - constant turnover in the staff makes this place completely unpredictable. Two month ago I ordered eggs benedict and the eggs came out with a completely hard center, bascially hard boiled - get this! - I send the eggs back for them to try again and guess what they send out?? again, hard boiled egg-like center, no runny yolk whatsoever - I send it back again (after the waitress watches me cut into a hard yolk in confusion) and they send out a third attempt to poach an egg, same hard yolk. She offered to take it back for a fourth try but I said no - need I remind you what the definition of insanity is, I was exhausted at this point. The dish was not taken off the bill, as an aside. I have had several of these type instances here. The most recent visit was brunch a week or so ago, knowing they cannot poach an egg I order them scrambled with cheddar, hash browns and bacon. I received scrambled, no cheddar, out of hash brown and sausage. I wanted the bacon so I asked for it and the waitress said they must have been confused (or she forgot because she doesn't write down the order - she is too good for that) stating "it is almost 3, they probably won't cook it for you because the kitchen closes at 3" - she came back 15 minutes later with the bill and said I had to pay so she could leave, never mentioned the bacon though she did say "thanks for be flexible" - meaning I didn't get what I ordered and had no choice because she wouldn't correct the order.
Bottom line - if you are "flexible" - give this place a shot!
The "market" - this is a hilarious excuse for a market. Having lived in the Cork Factory I can honestly say that I have bought at least a dozen different produce items and cut into them as soon as I arrived home only to find rot. My girlfriend once wondered if bell peppers were always supposed to be brown and black on the inside - that's how they always are from Marty's! What's worse than the produce you ask?? The meats and cheese! We used to get brie there because you know it is going to be ripe (brie gets soft/ripe after it sits for a while, time depends on variety, just a lesson in case you were confused). The meats and cheese have all been siting in that store for a very long time. The meats look terrible, just look in the case - dry, old and unappetizing. I wont buy cheese there anymore when I saw the packaged sliced cheese was green and fuzzy with mold, they have given up on caring the remove the really expired foods. Bread is so hard you could throw it through a window.
Bottom line - everything is expired here, if you are in a pinch and must buy something here - check the expiration dates!!! and never buy anything "fresh" - live by those rules or prepare for some down-time, if you know what I mean.
