  • After seeing some of the cake examples here on Yelp, I was excited about the possibility of the Drago Sisters creating a unique and special cake for my boyfriend's birthday. When I came into the store, my good mood was met by a young girl who was not in a good mood. I figured we all have our days; so it's cool. However, when I began describing what I envisioned... a cake in the shape of Half Dome (a mountain in Yosemite National Park) with a tiny rock climber, a black bear and trees, she basically cut me off and I felt rushed through the whole meeting. I showed her a few photos as well. When it came time to ask what should be inscribed on the cake, I stated, "Happy birthday ___, crushing another year!" and she basically interrupted and said, 'Yeah, she'll decide what to put....' seemingly annoyed and shrugging to others in the back. I thought, 'Am I not paying $100 for a cake? Can I decide what will be written?' I kept thinking to myself that it might be better to just cancel my order now but knew I was at a cut-off time to have the cake ready by his birthday, totally my fault for not starting the search sooner. I continued to be really cordial because at any establishment where people are creating your food...you really should. :) Oddly enough, I felt what I was requesting was probably a much simpler cake request than many of their others. Bam! Easy hundred bucks for them....basically, a mound with the small details. I ordered the chocolate and chocolate flavor. When the day came to pick it up, it was almost my worst fear realized....the cake looked nothing like I had requested. No black bear (which I had wanted because a rock and some trees seemed too simple). I felt the details I had requested were totally missed and the cake was fairly drab. I had had a bad feeling since coming in and being welcomed by someone with a bad mood. I am giving two stars, instead of one because no matter how badly I felt, the cake was moist and chocolate'y; the flavor was there. The customer service was poor and my requests were not honored. If someone is willing to spend that amount of money on a cake, feel free to be apathetic toward a happy customer but at least get the details right or vice versa (have great customer service and fudge the cake a little)....but missing 2 out of 3 is bad. I could never hire them again for any bakery needs and would not recommend this place; although at least ordering something they've already designed would probably help....you'd know exactly what you're getting.
