Midwood Smokehouse is situated right in the heart of the Plaza-Midwood area surrounded by tons of great places to eat and yet it rises above the rest. No easy feat.
For one, I had heard stories about this place prior to visiting, about how the food was so good that it was always crowded and you might have to wait to be seated. Well the first time I went came here with a friend we did in fact end up having to wait about 15 minutes to be seated but I have to say those 15 minutes were very well worth it.
First off, the staff is amazing. Always friendly and conversational, knowledgable of the menu, and happy to be there.
The shining star meal of the Midwood Smokehouse for me is the Burnt Ends BBQ plate. These are little cubes of meat made with their in house Fat Tire sauce. I was really blown away at how great these things tasted the first time I had them. I ordered a small plate and regretted not getting a large. Seriously they're that good. On the side I also decided to try their bacon wrapped jalapeño side as a jalapeño wrapped in bacon was an odd combination that I had never heard of. These were really good too. I'll recommend grabbing a side of them with whatever meal you decide to get. Overall I must say the food at Midwood Smokehouse is top-notch.
Midwood Smokehouse has a sizable menu of draft beers so we decided to have a few. A good portion of their selection consists of local drafts from right here in NC so I went for the Mother Earth IPA out of my hometown and it was as good as expected.
I can't recommend Midwood Smokehouse enough. It's well worth the wait to get in and I see what all the fuss was about over this place. Since first trying them in 2013 I've been back several times and it's always a great eating experience. BBQ is big in the part of NC that I'm from and I have to say Midwood Smokehouse ranks among some of the best in the state.
