  • As a result of a Groupon, we attended their 5-course wine dinner. Having spent 27 years in CA surrounded by wine regions, we've been to our share of "wine" dinners. What I loved most about this dinner was the total unpretentiousness of it. It was group seating in what is normally used as a classroom--pleasant, but not fancy. We got to meet new people. Having been to CA wine dinners with elaborate food and very pricey wine I loved the fact that the menu was recognizable and the wines were reasonably priced. Christine Rizk talked about the various wines, showed some videos and staff gave us generous "tastes". The wines tasted were available to order but, frankly, since we were told they were readily available, I will seek them out in Bevmo, a little closer to home rather than driving back out to N. Scottsdale to pick them up. The food was good and it was plentiful. I fell in love with the potato-leek pancakes w/smoked salmon and herbed creme fraiche. The AZ wine from Page Springs was a perfect accompaniment. This was what looked like a simple first course but was really elegant. Lamb is one of my favorites but by the time we got to the fourth course I was getting full. Yes, I ate every speck of that wonderful lamb chop! My apologies to the chef who spent so much time endlessly babying the perfect risotto. I just couldn't finish it without skipping the dessert. That night I dreamt of the incredible shortbread cookies that accompanied the lemon mouse that ended our meal. Chef Joe Cambria did a wonderful job explaining what we were eating with detailed instructions and tips on how it was prepared. Other attendees insisted they could recreate the dishes from this info but they are obviously more talented than I. Service was efficient and cheerful with even Chef Joe serving/clearing. He went over some of the classes offered and I am thinking this might be a fun time with a girlfriend. I intend to go back. This was a fun experience. My only complaint (and a minor one at that) was that it would have been really nice to have the recipes written out for those of us who are more challenged in the kitchen.
