  • Natasha is a very skilled pastry chef that makes gorgeous custom cakes that taste delicious. I think I read she had her res seal in pastry arts. We tried some of her cupcakes a few months back and have decided to rethink our wedding plans to include these. The cake is flavourful and moist and the icing is light and fluffy while not to sweet and still a very much the flavour your expect. Why can't you color your raspberry icing orange I asked? because real raspberries make the icing a purple pink. Real raspberries folks... I don't think I've ever knowingly had icing with real fruit for flavour that tasted like the real fruit? (maybe a dull flavor to a whipped cream type but ti was subtile). She also explains she uses high quality, local and organic (when possible) and the attention to those details is worth it in the end product I tried. The cake is also made from scratch and she's working with some wonderful recipes. For flavours she's got all the standard and then some special ones. As a completely custom baker, she'll also do her best to make any concoction you fancy. If she doesn't have a color - she's bring it in. She'll source cupcake toppers and wrappers for you if you need. She suggests you search google images and pinterest for a jumping off point for something cool and custom and then she'll tell you what she can do and if she can source whatever else is required. She DOES need time for this and there is costs to many of these special requests as one might expect. But, I trust her to some other bakeries that have misspelled names in icing because it's just a low paid 20 year old doing the piping. Cupcakes are ONLY sold in dozens (maybe half dozens in the larger orders after a couple other dozens. So that's the major downside as I don't often need a full dozen cupcakes. Cost for regular size cupcake is $30/dz but she also have small and medium sizes that are lower in price. Pricing is comparable to boutique cupcake places that sell single units but probably taste better. I have yet to try one of her full cakes but when I do I'll update. She has a different level of flavour for the cakes that all sound very exciting. Some of the cakes in the kitchen and her portfolio are like "cake boss" projects. I would struggled to actually slice up and serve some of those amazing art pieces. Actually now I think about it, I believe I have had a cake from here - it had a photo of the birthday girl on the top printed out on edible paper. It was good but it was vanilla on vanilla (such a waste of cake... but at least the vanilla was vibrant and tasted good). As far as wedding or custom cakes go, they are expensive but comparatively so not so bad. You can find cheaper cakes from hobby bakers but these typically aren't regulated by Alberta Health and subject to food inspection so there are those risks. You can also spend quite a bit more (for less) from some other more prominent local bakeries. Natasha is a nice midpoint. Her overhead is low - she's built her basement into a professional and commercial bakery deliberately with a separate entrance on the main floor (I'm sure it took a custom blueprint from her builder and possibly some zoning changes to do this). So she doesn't really have a store front or anything that goes with it but she does have a completely regulated and professional way to turn out cakes. It can be a challenge to find her though - the address is a ####B and you're driving down a residential street of single family homes with no As or Bs in site. Hers is a corner home and the bakery opens up to the side of her homes front entrance. It took us a call to figure this all out after we did a couple passes. For wedding cakes, she will do a tasting. If my memory serves, it's $12 for 4 people and she'll bake up a number of her cakes for your appointment. She goes through some VERY busy periods and will book several weeks at a time solid where she won't take any more orders. If you are interested, I'd recommend getting your orders in well in advance.
