  • I grew up in the middle east, eating some of the best and authentic falafels, hummus and tahini. I trust my middle eastern childhood to spot a good falafel and Banzo scores! The first thing I look for in a falafel is for a crunchy exterior with the green goodness of a parsely infused batter. I am more partial to the batter made of Garbanzo beans as opposed to that made with Fava beans. Banzo gets it bang on with the color and texture. I have had many a falafel in the US with pale interiors due to the absence of the parsley. An authentic looking falafel, Banzo's falafels make you feel good all the way through!. The flavor is near perfect and close to authentic, a bit more parsley and you would be transported into the lands of Arabia!. The sandwiches are a perfect complement to the falafel. I often have The Banzo and The Harvest both of which are a burst of color and flavor. I prefer The Harvest, for the addition of the pan seared eggplant slices. Juicy and tender, the perfectly cooked eggplant certainly pairs well with the crunchy falafel. I have had my share of charred eggplant in my sandwich, but I am willing to look over that one isolated incident. Once you have bitten into the sandwich and enjoyed every bit it, the heaviness of the sandwich sinks in!. For $7.95, the Harvest is as good as it can get and satisfying to the T. A personal suggestion would be to buy the sandwich from their food cart or dine in, something is a miss with the sandwich when it is delivered home. While their hummus lacks the small yet bold statement made by the tahini added to it (the authentic hummus has tahini play a small yet significant role in its flavor), Banzo's hummus is creamy and delicious. Pair it up with pita chips, or lick it off your fingers, either ways the hummus is truly enjoyable. Banzo is certainly as authentic as it can get! Crispy and fresh, the plain looking, unassuming food certainly rules your palate with flavor. Banzo manages to appease my longing for middle eastern food without insulting my arabian memories. My only suggestion is if they could add a mint lemonade to the menu, which is traditionally paired with the falafel.
