  • This is a good museum. The Friday night deal from 4:30 - 8:30 with reduced admission is a steal. I agree with other posters that if you've seen many other large-city history and natural history museums that the ROM is not too different but there are still different things. Although the Friday night was busy there was plenty of room to move around and the entrance line went quickly. The location is very near the Metro. The displays seem to be grouped in a natural manner. As in the Native American/Canadian section has paintings of the time as well as the feathered headdresses and canoes instead of putting them in separate sections. The sections seem to lead from one to the other with only some backtracking. A hint for families or really anyone: there is a list of the top 10 ROM treasures of family interest that works as a great treasure hunt. Give the list to one child (or child-like adult) and a pen to another. The 10 items require a trek through the entire museum and include things like a piece of meteorite, Egyptian tomb, white rhino, Sitting Bull's headdress. On the museum map there is also a list of unique items that are worth seeking out as you go past. Of particular interest on this visit: the environmental effect on biodiversity as happening now on earth; the mineral and gem section was the most interesting I've seen. As you exit or enter there is a Second Cup coffee place and a Pho Hung across the street if you need caffeine or delicious food.
