  • So to update my initial review, which still stands...I finally met with the "contact specialist" if you can even call her that. My understanding of meeting with the specialist was that we had to discuss the different contact options and that there would be multiple to choose from. That was not the case. She had one brand of contact lenses and said that was what I would be trying out. Which means they could have just given me a trial pair after my appointment if I was only going to have one brand option. So she states that I'm going to owe out of pocket $55 and that my insurance would be covering the rest. That also was incorrect. After I left they ended up billing me for the remaining $20 because my insurance would not cover it. So all together it was $75 for a less than 5 minute "consult" with a specialist with one product. Rip off!!!! AWFUL AWFUL AWFUL. I don't think another word adequately describes my visit with Shepherd Eye Center. After running out of contacts and not having a day off all month I decided to use my leave to make an appointment to get new contacts. I called Shepherd Eye Center and specified that I needed to make an appointment to get my annual eye exam and to get a new prescription for my contacts. While scheduling the appointment I reiterated that I needed to be leaving my appointment with contacts . So that brings me to my actual appointment. If you enjoy being shuttled around like cattle, then this is your place. You see three people (who are not doctors, they never actually tell you their titles so I'm going to assume they're assistants) before even getting to see a doctor. By time you actually get to seeing a doctor an hour later, he then spends maybe five minutes with you, not actually listening to anything you have to say and proceeds to talk over you. I told him I needed contacts and it was affecting my job not having them. He then told me that I would have to sit down with their contact specialist, WHO WAS NOT EVEN THERE, in order for him to give me any contacts or a prescription. I told him I specified on the phone that I needed to be leaving with contacts and he said he couldn't do anything until I saw her. Then he gave me a prescription for glasses and shuttled me out into a fourth waiting room for the optical department to try to shove another pair of glasses down my throat. By time I got to the front to check out and make a (hopefully soon) appointment with this "contact specialist" I was told she didn't have availability until the end of the month and that there is only one and she rotates around all their offices. I asked for the earliest appointment she had at any office and that wasn't for ten days. So all in all I made an appointment for something and didn't even get what I needed. I've been wearing contacts for 18 years, I don't need to see a specialist who will charge an extra fee for watching me stick my finger in my eye. Next time I'll go to Costco and pay out of pocket full price instead of going to a place like this that actually takes my insurance.
