El Dorado is one of the few restaurants my picky friend loves to go to for brunch, so I come here relatively often. He always gets the yuppie hash, and is just so darn happy and joyous when he gets it that it just makes me happy!
Otherwise, to be honest, I don't know if they would be in my standard Madison brunch rotation. The food is fine, don't get me wrong, but it's just never really what I'm craving. I often peruse the menu and think, well, okay, I suppose I'll get this. When I have it, it's usually good, but my brunch enthusiasm is lower than normal here. I've started getting their scramble specials lately and that's been working out, but I never wake up and think, oh man, I'm just dying for something from El Dorado! When I'm in a boozy mood, I like their bloody mary.
Biggest plus to the place for me is that they take reservations for brunch, which is a serious plus when most brunch spots in Madison are 1) tiny and 2) don't take reservations so you're forced to wait. This is the place I'd take 6 of my best friends if we wanted a solid place where we wouldn't have to risk possibly not finding a spot for the next hour. You need a reservation though, because otherwise you'll be waiting... Forever.
Summary: fine food, best served with a reservation for a large party.
