Everything from the decor, to the vibe, to the pizzas is top notch. The menu consists of several solid thin crust Neapolitan-style staples updated weekly by interesting specials that make coming back to this restaurant always fresh. Had a tex-mex pizza one time with spiced beef, coriander, confited tomatoes, and a balsamic reduction that was flavourfully sweet, spicy, and simply delicious. One of the first restaurants to serve oysters before it became trendy, they have a decent mix of mollusks from around North America. The charcuterie is solid but a tad unspectacular. My favourite item was bread sticks with a mildly spicy garlic aioli and roasted artichokes but alas it's no longer served because its popularity was eating up too much of the pizza dough.
My only complaints would be that that the pizza quality declines slightly when the owner isn't slinging them; I find the cornicione too fat and the centres too soggy. Also, it's not the cheapest restaurant though my final bill reflects more my desire to eat everything on the menu rather than a lack of value for money. As far as pizza joints go in Montreal, Magpie is at or near the top.
