  • I had the BEST time here and plan on doing it again the next time I'm in the area. I am NOT a daredevil. Although others can't tell it (I hide it well), I get a little bit nervous doing even low-risk activities (such as bike riding or skating). I'm also clumsy and uncoordinated and don't trust my ability to control my own body enough to feel comfortable doing anything dare-devilish. So, to sum it up: I'm a klutzy chicken and definitely not a daredevil! But here's the thing about me: I REALLY like new and unique experiences -- so much so that, despite being a klutzy chicken, I have gone skydiving, zip-lining, scuba-diving, rappelling, mountain climbing, cliff jumping, spelunking, etc. before. And, although I'm usually glad to experience every new thing that I have tried, there's only a few experiences in which I said to myself "I HAVE TO do that again." Usually, it's the experience that people don't find frightening -- like skiing or scuba diving. Yet I want to do the Edgewalk again -- despite others seeing it frightening. When I posted the pic of me (that I'll also post here) during my Edgewalk on Facebook, I got a lot of "Nope!" and "Na uh! That's crazy!" comments. So bonus points for getting a bunch of street cred on Facebook! But here's the thing, everything is done so professionally and carefully, that everyone is eased into the activity and it's not as scary as it looks. Was I nervous? Heck ya! We were 1,168 feet above ground and my legs felt like gelatin. The entire time I was out there, I thought "if someone lost control of their legs and ended up just swinging from the rope, it'd be my dumb butt!" But then again, the staff (especially our guide, Justin), does a crazy good job at doing what they can to make you feel comfortable so it wasn't AS scary as you'd think it'd be. The people that work there REALLY take safety seriously and act in a professional manner so I couldn't help but to feel that I was in good hands. I think my equipment was checked by at least 5 different people before I went out and some people checked it twice. Activities were done in careful increments and Justin correctly judged when someone needed a bit more encouragement or had enough. I have to admit that my confidence came in waves depending on how the wind blew (and I mean that literally: the windier it got, the more nervous I got and vice versa.). So, I now HAVE TO go back and redeem myself (although I did each activity, I just got REALLY tense at the end again and wish I allowed myself to relax and enjoy the experience more). Edge Walk gave us tickets to see the rest of the tower AND offered a half off discount if we did the Edge Walk a second time on the same day but I had to catch a plane and couldn't participate. They also gave us a cute picture souvenir thing-a-ma-jig for free and the opportunity to buy more pics at super cheap rates (I think I paid only $25 CAD to get the complete reel on a USB flash drive). I was lucky enough to go with a great group of people: one from Sweden, a couple from the UK and so forth. Except for the Swedish guy (he had NO FEAR!) we were all a bit nervous but ALL of us LOVED the experience. I totally recommend trying this. There are not many places that offer this activity so it's a definite "must do"!
