The four Jolly Diners slipped into The Barrio Cafe just as it was getting busy for the evening. It was recently rated as the best Mexican restaurant in the Nation and we really wanted to see why. First, the waiter made fresh guacamole right at our table which was served with chips. Fresh bread and tapenade were also served. Both were delicious. For entrees: I ordered the Posole Verde which had pork in it. I missed that on the menu so immediately removed that and it became meatless. My aunt had the Esquites (Buttered roasted corn kernels topped with chipotle cream). Sister ordered Tecate beer battered fish tacos, and mom had roasted corn chowder. It was all well prepared and delicious. It was easy to see that the dishes at The Barrio Cafe are unique and delicious. It is certainly not the typical Mexican restaurant experience. The Jolly Diners revommend The Barrio for anyone wanting a truly above average and uniquely delicious Mexican cuisine experience.I now really do understand why it was rated as the best in the nation.
