I typically buy birthday and special occasion cakes from Barb's Bakery, but thought I would try Karl's as it is much closer and reviews are mostly good. I went in today and bought a cake (white with lemon filling and buttercream icing) from the display as it was for a last minute get together. My first suggestion would be to not buy a cake from those displayed. I made the purchase around 11:30am and when we cut at around 1:00pm the center filling was still a bit frozen. The cake had a "freezer" taste to it and there was way too much lemon filling that completely over powered the cake. I will definitely stick with Barb's for cakes. I also picked up a couple of small eclairs, a raspberry danish and an apple fritter. The eclair was unremarkable and the raspberry filling in the danish seemed to be nothing more than raspberry jam right out of the jar. The apple fritter was very good, but not worth a repeat visit. Most of the staff were friendly though the cashier had difficulty and there was a young man wearing an "in training" name tag who looked absolutely miserable and didn't return my "hello". Big sigh as I was hoping this would be my new go to bakery - sadly, it won't be.
