  • My husband and I are both horseracing enthusiasts and for years have been to tracks all over the USA, but I have to say to date this was not our greatest experience, yet something we had really looked forward to and planned for. We knew, it being Kentucky Derby Day it would be crowed and hot, so we decided (our first-time there) and since I wasn't feeling good, we would do Valet parking and they charged us $15.00 when we got to the main entrance to buy our tickets at $5 each and they wouldn't let us in and many others enter there, but were told we had to walk all the way around to a side entrance and it was so hot. We complained to the valet, but they pretty much shrugged it off and we complained to a AZ Texas/like Ranger Guard and he was helpful. We went in to the main covered pavilion and found a seat up high, but they had no ceiling or other fans and it was like sitting in a tin can, but we persevered and bought Pizza and beer to snack on. The Pizza was awful. My husband asked if there was a place near us to do off-track betting and we found out there was a small grayhound track near us in Apache Junction, so we left and drove the 62 miles back (124 RT) and found a very pleasant cool place and placed our bets and won a few bucks. I'm sorry I simply cannot recommend Turf Paradise as a racing venue. The outside is nice when you first drive up, but very disappointing, once inside. It needs a complete overhaul/facelift, large fans/Misters on the outside seats near the track and the scoreboard is so outdated, it's hard to read and no big TV's. Now if you want a horseracing great venue not that far away go to Santa Anita, it's the best. BTW....My husband is a Disabled Vietnam Vetren and I'm a spry 76 and we don't mind walking or even a bad piece of Pizza, but we do mind paying to be treated poorly and that's the real rub here, besides suffering through 100+ degree heat without a friggin' fan.
