| - The celebratory last meal for my guys' weekend in Las Vegas was at Gordon Ramsay Steak. Since GR Steak was a last-minute decision, I had to make reservations on the same day and was lucky to get at table at 4:30, when the restaurant opened, which was the only availability still available on that Sunday night. I was fine with an early dinner, but I strongly recommend making reservations days, if not weeks, in advance if you want to dine on a specific date and at a specific time.
I started off with a cocktail, the Drifter, a bourbon-based drink that was the kind of boozy cocktail that you'd expect to find at a good steakhouse. I'd previously eaten here a couple of times on previous trips, but I'd never just had one of their steaks. My decision was made even more certain after the "meat cart" displaying the available beautiful cuts of steak rolled up to our table. I ordered the 18 oz. bone-in New York Strip. We ordered the Ricotta Agnolotti as an appetizer and Roasted Brussels Sprouts and Fingerling Potatoes as our shared sides. After waiting almost 20 minutes for our appetizer after placing our order, our waiter informed us that the chef was not satisfied with the quality of the Ricotta Agnolotti that was coming out of the kitchen and was scratching it from the night's menu. Not that I expected anything less from a Gordon Ramsay restaurant, but I was impressed that the chef didn't let anything less than the best be sent out from the kitchen. The sign of a great restaurant is how it responds to the unforeseen. Our waiter added that the chef would be sending out a couple of items to us compliments of the house as an apology for our inconvenience. It was an appreciated but totally unexpected and unnecessary gesture. I was floored when we received a plate of beautiful shrimp and an order of smoked beef tartare, which were delicious and probably better choices for appetizers than our original selection. As we were finishing the appetizers, our entrées arrived. My steak was cooked to a perfect medium rare. In truth, an 18 oz. steak, even with it bone-in, was a lot of meat. Frankly, it was beginning to be a struggle to finish and I certainly had no room for dessert, but there was no way I was going to leave without finishing the last bite of my steak. Had I been here with my wife, we would've ordered a single steak and shared it. I recommend that if you come here with your wife/girlfriend/significant other. The sides were delicious, too, but paled in comparison to the steak and apps.
There are plenty of outstanding steakhouses in Las Vegas, but Gordon Ramsay Steak stands out for me for its high standards for food and service, and the sincere desire to ensure its guests leave satisfied and happy. It's a place that is a sure thing for a good meal.
